Overview / Comments
Abundant in history, this special property has much to offer. Located at the intersection of Middle Road and Hedley near Town Hall, this highly visible building is a Portsmouth and Rhode Island landmark. Built in 1700, with additions in 1880, the building was originally a Quaker Meeting House and school. It was occupied by British troops during the American Revolutionary War, and later The Moses Brown School was founded at the church in 1784. In 1973 it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. The church and three bedroom home sit on a 3.75 Acre corner lot surrounded by stone walls.
